Beavers โ€“ 6 to 8 years

Try new things. Make new friends. Joining Beavers is just the beginning of your big adventure.

Being a Beaver

Beavers in the UK are the youngest section of the The Scout Association, designed for children aged around 6โ€“8. Itโ€™s often the first step into Scouting, focused on fun, friendship, and gentle adventure in a safe and welcoming environment.

What Beavers is about:

  • 🐾 Fun & discovery: games, creative activities, and simple outdoor adventures
  • 🤝 Making friends: children join a โ€œColonyโ€ and build friendships quickly
  • 🏕️ First experiences: early introductions to camping, nature, and teamwork
  • 🏅 Badges & achievements: celebrating small wins and new skills
  • 🌈 Learning through play: everything is hands-on, active, and enjoyable

For parents:

  • A gentle introduction to structured group activities outside school
  • Safe, inclusive, and run by trained volunteer leaders
  • Helps build confidence, independence, and social skills early on
  • Encourages curiosity and resilience in a supportive setting

For children, Beavers feels like a weekly adventure with friends. For parents, itโ€™s a reassuring way to help their child grow in confidence while having a lot of fun along the way.
