Being a Cub

Cub Scouts in the UK are part of the The Scout Association and are designed for children aged around 8โ€“10ยฝ. Itโ€™s a fun, structured way for young people to try new things, build confidence, and make friends in a safe environment.

What Cub Scouts is about:

  • 🧭 Adventure & fun: outdoor activities, games, camps, and challenges
  • 🤝 Friendship & teamwork: children work in small groups called โ€œSixesโ€
  • 🏆 Skills & badges: learning practical skills and being recognised for achievements
  • 🌍 Community & values: encouraging kindness, respect, and helping others
  • 🚀 Personal growth: building confidence, independence, and resilience

For parents:

  • A safe, welcoming environment run by trained volunteers
  • Encourages children to try new experiences they might not get elsewhere
  • Helps develop life skills that support school and beyond
  • Flexible and inclusiveโ€”open to all backgrounds and abilities

For children, it feels like adventure and play. For parents, itโ€™s a positive way to help their child grow in confidence while having a great time.
